JUST IN: NUJ Condemns Abduction Of Nation’s Correspondent, Wife, Children In Kaduna

The Kaduna State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condemned the abduction of The Nation correspondent AbdulGafar Alabelewe and Blue Print newspaper reporter AbdulRaheem Aodu, along with their families, from their residences in the Danhono area of Kaduna metropolis.

Alabelewe and Aodu, along with their wives and children, were kidnapped on the night of Saturday, July 6.

In a statement signed by council chairman Comrade Asmau Yawo Halilu and Secretary Comrade Gambo Santos Sanga, the NUJ expressed outrage over the incident and urged security agencies to take swift action to rescue the journalists and their families.

The statement also called on the government at all levels to intensify efforts to ensure the security of citizens’ lives and property at all times.

It stressed that the ugly phenomenon of kidnapping in Kaduna and its environs is now resurfacing and must be checked to avert the experiences of the recent past.

The Kaduna State Council of NUJ however, enjoined all practising journalists in the state to be vigilant in their daily activities while also praying for the safe return of their abducted colleagues and their families.

Bandits in large numbers, late Saturday night, stormed the Danhonu community in the Millennium City of Chikun local government area of Kaduna State and abducted two journalists reporting for The Nation and Blueprint Newspapers in the state.
