The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the arrest of a well-known whistleblower who operates under the handle @PIDOMNIGERIA on X (formerly Twitter).
Before his arrest, the whistleblower had confidently stated that he was untouchable, referring to himself as “breeze.”
PIDOM gained recognition for exposing corruption by leaking sensitive documents related to the federal government, security agencies, state governments, and private companies.
Concerns about his safety were first raised by investigative journalist David Hundeyin, who noticed the whistleblower’s sudden absence from social media.
The NPF’s spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed PIDOM’s arrest in a statement on Saturday.
According to Adejobi, the arrest was made on August 5, 2024, in Rivers State, as part of a coordinated effort by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC).
“The suspect, Bristol Isaac Tamunobiefiri, also known as PIDOM, was arrested on allegations of serious offenses that compromise the integrity of government operations,” the statement said. “These include unlawful possession and leakage of classified documents, as well as cyber-related offenses. We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation into these cases.”
