Methodism In Abuja @ 40: Kubwa Diocese Football Team Lifts Trophy; Archbishop Akinwale Hails Professionalism, Sportsmanship Spirit

It was all victorious song “STAND UP FOR THE CHAMPIONS! WORTHY IS THE LAMB!” as the Kubwa Diocesan football team lifted the Archbishop trophy of the football competition organised as part of the five-week long Methodism in Abuja at 40 celebration.

The Methodist family in Abuja came out enmass as they join the pride and future of Methodism in Abuja as they engaged in the football event which started on Thursday.

All the three Dioceses – Abuja, Nyanya and Kubwa participated in the fiesta with Kubwa Diocese emerging victorious.

Earlier on Thursday, September 12th, Kubwa team piped Abuja to run away with three points in a lone-goal victory.

Nyanya Diocese had also stylishly defeated Abuja Diocese in a three goals to two combat having risen from two goals down.

The match between Abuja Diocese and Kubwa was explosive but Kubwa Diocese had a upper hand as it ended 4 goals to 2 in the ‘model’ Diocese favour.

The final match was them settled with 2 goals to one margin, also in favour of the victorious boys of Kubwa Diocese.

The elated Archbishop of Abuja, The Most Revd Dr Michael Olusegun Akinwale presented the trophy to the winning team.

He commended all the participating teams and Dioceses for a job well-done after thanking the players for demonstrating high level of professionalism and good spirit of sportsmanship.

The Archdiocesan Lay President, Sir AVM Dr John Kayode-Beckley, had at the flag-off of the tournament tasked the players to have the heart of Jesus Christ while engaging in the football competition.

He said the fiesta was part of the activities lined up for the celebration of Methodism in Abuja at 40 and urged all Methodist faithfuls to participate in all the events that commenced on September 3rd 2024 with a press Conference.

In his remarks, the Bishop of Kubwa Diocese, Archbishop-elect, Dr Chikwendu Ogan Igwe, lauded the Kubwa team for what he described as a “sweet victory”.

He said, “Waooh. A big Congratulations to the scintillating Kubwa team for this outstanding performance in the just concluded football match competition. It’s been a great outing capped with sweet victory. I’m proud of all of you. God bless the Kubwa family and to Him be all the Glory. Amen”.

The Central Working Committee of Methodism in Abuja at 40 celebration headed by Sir Dr Charles Akpabio said the Activities for the landmark celebration continues on Saturday, September 14th with roadshow in Nyanya Diocese.

“The Roadshow tagged Victory Procession is targeted at not only celebrating Methodism in Abuja @ 40 but winning souls for Christ. Be part of the various roadshows*

Nyanya- Saturday 14th Sept @ 9am
Kubwa – Saturday 21st Sept @ 9am
Abuja – Saturday 28th Sept @ 9am

*Sharing of Gospel tracts
*Sharing of Food items
*Music by Boys Brigade *Gospel DJ”

The grand finale holds on Sunday October 13th 2024 at the Methodist Cathedral of Unity, Wuse, Abuja.
