Methodist Bishop Counsel Couples On Marriage As Chukwuma, Faith Signed Dotted Line

Married couples have been advised not to jettison the main reasons for consummation of marriages because of delay in child bearing.

The Methodist Bishop, Diocese of Kubwa in Abuja Archdiocese, The Rt Revd Dr Frederick A. G. Onoja gave the advise during a service of marriage blessing between Chief Chukwuma Aham Chigbu and his wife, Faith at the Methodist Cathedral of Grace, Kubwa, Abuja.

He itemized Companionship, Partnership and meeting sexual needs as the major reasons while God established marriage with number four reasons as procreation.

Bishop Onoja however said some couples are in disarray because children are yet to come which should not be the case.

He acknowledged that children are blessing in any marriage noting that the blessing would certainly come when couples obeyed God and ensure the three other reasons of marriage are complied with adding that the Bible says “there would be no barren in the land”.

The cleric tasked couples to always keep to the word of God by “always united and become one flesh” as they strive to sustain companionship in marriage.

Bishop Onoja quoting from Ephesians chapter 5 added that there is no excuse for submission on the part of a woman in the marriage while the husband loves her in return.

He said the doctrine of the premier church – Methodist Church Nigeria allows marriage blessing to accommodate willing couples who might have sought the blessings of their parents in a traditional marriage or and conducted marriage in the court registry.

He justified reasons for marriage blessing as understanding and appreciating the role of God as the author of the marriage institution.
