‎Niger Sexagenarian, Four Others Arrested For Theft, Cybercrime

‎The Niger State Police Command has arrested a sexagenarian and four other suspects for offences bordering on theft, cybercrime, among others, in multiple operations across the state.

‎The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

‎Abiodun noted that the sexagenarian, Mohammed Sani, was arrested on October 12 during a police and vigilante patrol with a suspected stolen motorcycle.

‎“The suspect was arrested at Tugan-Kawo village in the process of stealing a Bajaj motorcycle. He was found with a bunch of motorcycle keys which he used to steal motorcycles.

‎“He confessed to the crime and the owner of the motorcycle was later identified, while the suspect was charged to court for prosecution,” he added.

‎The PPRO noted that on October 16, 2025, at about 6 p.m., a patrol team on routine patrol along Kaduna Road intercepted one Victor Ugwu in a public argument with one Peter of the same area.

‎He added that when questioned, Peter stated that within last year, he contacted Victor to link him with one of his colleague at work.

‎“Surprisingly, Victor chose to dress like a lady, took self-pictures and forwarded them to Peter through social media, requesting money. During investigation, a search was conducted in Victor’s house; a wig and female clothes were recovered.

‎“He confessed that he shared the pictures with his contacts on Facebook and TikTok for a dating scam, and to also achieve one thousand viewers and followers for monetisation. Case under further investigation,” the spokesperson stated.

‎In another update, Abiodun noted that a distress report about a phone-snatching syndicate operating within the Kure Market led to the arrest of three suspects, Hassan Abdullahi, Abubakar Ali, and Kalipha Bashiru.

‎In another operation, Abiodun noted that on October 16, 2025, at about 7 a.m., a report at Maje Division indicated that a white Golf vehicle with number plate RSH 442 FD was stolen by an unknown person from where it was parked at Hayin-Kaduna.

‎“The police patrol team of the Division mobilised and embarked on a search for the vehicle along Maje-Dikko Junction to Kaduna Road.

‎“Fortunately, the said vehicle was found abandoned along Kaduna Road and it was recovered to the Police station.

‎“The complainant was contacted, and he confirmed the vehicle to be the stolen vehicle. Investigation is ongoing to identify the perpetrator,” Abiodun concluded.

‎This is not the first time, the Niger State Police Command has arrested suspects in multiple raids.

‎DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS reported on October 13 that the command arrested four suspects in separate incidents of motorcycle theft in Minna, the state capital.

‎Abiodun had stated that the arrests followed coordinated operations by officers attached to the Central Police Station and other tactical units.
