Drama Ministry of Methodist Church Nigeria is set to host the ”Arise Abuja Drama Festival”, on October 1, 2025, at the Cyprian Ekwensi Center for Arts and Culture in Abuja.
According to the Drama Coordinator of Methodist Church Nigeria, The Very Rev. Abel Amuta, the festival, a celebration of faith, art on Nigeria’s Independence Day, will feature performances by notable drama ministries from various churches, including Maranatha Drama Ministry, Vision Drama Mission Outreach Int’l, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Anglican Communion, Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), The Baptist Church, and the host, Methodist Church Nigeria.
The gospel drama festival coincided with Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations, promising a unique blend of faith, art, and culture.
He explained that the festival aimed to edify the Church, win souls, and influence lives for Christ through Christian ministry drama.
“The event also provides a platform for dramatists to learn from each other and collaborate in the growing field of Christian drama and film production.
“The theme, ‘Arise Abuja Drama Festival,’ is inspired by the Methodist Church Nigeria’s 2025 Conference theme, ‘He will rise again’ from John 11:23.
The festival seeks to lift spirits, renew hope, and ignite zeal for serving the Lord”, he explained.
The Very Revd Amuta noted that Abuja has hosted various festivals and events, including the Abuja International Film Festival, which showcases excellence in film art and promotes cultural understanding.
“The city’s vibrant cultural scene makes it an ideal location for the Arise Abuja Drama Festival. On behalf of the Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Dr. Oliver Ali Aba JP, I warmly welcome you and deeply appreciate you for honoring our invitation,” he stated.
Church leaders including Methodist Archbishop of Abuja, His Grace, The Most Revd Michael Olusegun Akinwale; the Bishop of Kubwa, The Rt Revd Dr F.A.G Onoja; the Archdiocesan Lay President, Sir AVM John Kayode-Beckley PhD are expected to attend the event.
