It was Eulogies all throughout the Two-hour long Night of Tributes organized by the prestigious Omo Aj’orosun Club Ibadan in honour of his own, a former President (2018/2019) of the Club, Sir Chief Solomon Oluokun Babalola.
The epoch making event to celebrate an illustrious son of Ibadan land, the Bobajiro of Ikereku, Chief Babalola popularly called SOB held at the Clubhouse of Omo Aj’orosun Club Ibadan attracted dignitaries from all walks of life including the Commissioner for Establishment and Training in Oyo State; General Manager, Housing Corporation of Oyo State who doubles as the Public Relations Officer of the club; Engr Shonibare; Magaji Bioku; Past presidents of the club as well as Babalola family members from home and abroad.
The President of the Club, Engr Sunday Gbenro, sets the ball rolling while welcoming dignitaries and family members to the Night of Tributes in honour of SOB when he said the Club, a non-political socio cultural Club established in 1980 decided to celebrate SOB because he gave all in all to the progress and development of Ibadan land.
According to him, “We are not mourning but celebrating a life well spent in the services to humanity. SOB lives on and his memory lingers on among the Club”.
The first child of Sir Chief Babalola, Dr Bukola Omobowale, said the father was an administrator personified, lover of God and Methodism and a good husband to his wife, Lady Chief M. T Babalola.
She testified and expressed great joy that her late father is in heaven urging all the attendees to make peace with their maker.
Various other speakers testified that Sir Chief Solomon Oluokun Babalola was a great soldier of Christ, dogged fighter, highly courageous and open minded individual who touched and impacted anyone who come across him positively.
The first son of the deceased, Tosin Babalola in his vote of thanks appreciated all who despite their tight schedule came out to honour his late father and prayed for God’s abundant blessings and long life for all.
SOB’s first love, Methodist Church Nigeria was represented at the Night of Tributes by the Very Revd Dr Adegbola, Presbyter, Methodist Cathedral of Light, Agodi, Ibadan.
The Chairman, Committee of Night of Tributes, Oloye Wale Ogunmola who sees Late SOB as a jolly good fellow thanked members of Omo Aj’orosun Club Ibadan for rallying round the family and for attending the event enmasse.
The activities for the celebration of life of Sir Chief Solomon Oluokun Babalola continues today, Thursday November 7th 2024 with a service of songs at his Comfort Origbebe Lodge, Ore-Ofe Estate residence, Elewi-Odo, Ibadan while a host of dignitaries from all walks of life are expected to bid his remains farewell at a funeral service billed to hold at Methodist Cathedral of Light, Agodi, Ibadan on Friday.
