‎Opinion: Civil Rights Advocate, Okoye Chuka Peter Sends Save-our-soul Appeal To Anambra Gov Chukwuma Soludo Over  Land Grabbing, Intimidation, Killings In Enugwu-Agidi

‎ 20th February, 2026

‎AN OPEN LETTER TO CHUKWUMA SOLUDO, EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF ANAMBRA STATE

‎I write first to commend you for your dogged and visible efforts in securing our dear state. Your administration’s resolve to confront criminality, dismantle violent networks, and restore peace across Anambra has not gone unnoticed. Many citizens acknowledge that under your leadership, decisive steps have been taken to reclaim communities once overshadowed by fear and lawlessness.

It is in the spirit of strengthening these efforts that I draw your urgent attention to the disturbing and long-standing crisis in Enugwu-Agidi.

‎For years, the community has been under the suffocating grip of an organized land-grabbing network allegedly operated by a small but dangerous group. Through calculated deception, oath-bound alliances, and the installation of a parallel traditional structure designed to create false legitimacy, vast parcels of land have reportedly been sold under fraudulent representations to unsuspecting estate developers.

‎What makes the situation even more troubling is the brazenness with which these activities have been carried out. There are credible accounts of:

‎✓ The manipulation and seizure of town union structures.

‎✓ The intimidation and exclusion of legitimate community leaders.

‎✓ The burning of homes belonging to dissenting voices.

‎✓ The tragic killing of a citizen, Anayo Nworah, in circumstances linked to the climate of violence.

‎✓ The use of armed escorts and suspected security operatives as instruments of intimidation.

‎Your Excellency, land disputes in Anambra are rarely “mere civil matters.” They are often the ignition point for communal crises, violent reprisals, and the destabilization of entire localities. In Enugwu-Agidi, the alleged perpetrators are said to move about freely, sometimes in the company of security operatives, while families mourn loved ones sent to early graves as a consequence of this prolonged turmoil.

‎The implications go beyond one town. If criminally motivated estate dealings, shielded by intimidation and cosmetic corporate registration, are allowed to flourish, it undermines your government’s security architecture and emboldens similar actors across the state.

‎It is noteworthy that the Enugwu-Agidi community, through a widely monitored election on 29 December 2025, democratically rejected intimidation and restored structured leadership within its Town Union. Committees have since been constituted to review land transactions and halt irregular earth-moving activities pending verification. Yet, without firm state intervention, these internal reforms remain vulnerable.

‎Your Excellency, several concerned citizens of Enugwu-Agidi have reportedly written petitions and made efforts to draw the attention of your office to these grave issues. The silence or inaction perceived thus far has deepened anxiety within the community. It is for this reason that I now make this appeal publicly.

‎As the Chief Security Officer of Anambra State, you possess both the constitutional authority and moral mandate to intervene decisively. I respectfully urge you to:

‎1. Order a high-level, independent investigation into the alleged land-grabbing syndicate and associated acts of violence.

‎2. Review the conduct of any security personnel allegedly providing cover for unlawful activities.

‎3. Direct the Ministry of Lands and relevant agencies to audit contentious land allocations within Enugwu-Agidi.

‎4. Provide protection for lawful community leadership and witnesses willing to testify.

‎Such decisive intervention will not only restore sanity in Enugwu-Agidi; it will send an unmistakable signal across Anambra that land grabbing, intimidation, and criminal enterprise disguised as estate development will find no sanctuary under your watch.

‎Your administration has repeatedly affirmed that Anambra is not a haven for criminal elements. Addressing this matter head-on will reinforce that commitment and strengthen public confidence in your government’s resolve.

‎History will remember leaders not merely for the battles they fought, but for the injustices they refused to ignore.

‎I trust that you will treat this matter with the urgency it deserves in the interest of justice, peace, and the enduring stability of Anambra State.

‎Respectfully yours,

‎Okoye, Chuka Peter
