The People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), in Jigawa State has announced plans to formally join the emerging national opposition coalition aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Jigawa PDP Coalition Coordinating Committee, Dr. Aminu Abdullahi Taura, during the inauguration of local government coordinating committees across the 27 LGAs of the state in Dutse.
Dr. Taura confirmed that the party had concluded consultations and resolved to be part of the coalition, which is currently being formed by opposition leaders across the country.
“The People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), in Jigawa State is getting itself ready to join the coalition,” Dr. Taura stated.
“After all consultations and discussions, we resolved and agreed to join the coalition for the sake of Nigeria and Nigerians — to work together and end the current APC government, and to restore lost national security, peace, unity, and stability.”
He further explained that following the decision, the party inaugurated a state coordinating committee under his leadership and had now replicated the same structure at the local government level.
“These local government committees have been mandated to move down to the ward and polling unit levels to form solid grassroots structures that will be ready to mobilise into the coalition when the time comes,” Taura added.
The Jigawa PDP chairman revealed that key national party leaders, including former Governor Sule Lamido, are already in Abuja holding talks with other stakeholders in the coalition.
“Presently, there is an ongoing meeting between our leaders and those of the coalition group in Abuja. Our leader, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has been there since Monday, helping to form a solid movement that can confront the APC,” he said.
Dr. Taura expressed optimism that the coalition would attract support even from disgruntled APC members and ultimately succeed in removing President Bola Tinubu and other APC leaders in 2027.
“Everyone in the PDP, as the main opposition party, is involved. And we are optimistic that many others from even within the ruling APC will join our movement. We have ultimate hope to succeed in unseating President Bola Tinubu and all other bad leaders under APC — God willing,” he said.
He also urged party faithful to remain calm and united as efforts intensify to formalise the party’s role in the opposition alliance.
“We are making perfect plans and arrangements to join the coalition strongly, from polling units to the state level, and we await the outcome of our leaders’ engagements for the next line of action,” Dr. Taura concluded.
He thanked PDP members and political allies for their patience and steadfastness, saying:
“I therefore call on all members of our great party, PDP, in the state to remain calm and united. Victory is on our side. Let us wait for the next line of action.”
