Rivers Crisis: Wike Apologises To Obuah Over PDP Ticket Endorsement Controversy

Nyesom Wike publicly apologizes to former PDP Chairman Felix Obuah for urging him to step down in the 2023 gubernatorial race
Wike expresses remorse, acknowledges past mistakes, and pledges to rectify them, emphasizing the importance of transparency and leadership.

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, publicly apologized to former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in Rivers State, Felix Obuah, for urging him to step down in favour of the current state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, during the 2023 gubernatorial race.

Wike, previously at odds with his successor, expressed remorse during an event organized by Obuah in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state.

He acknowledged his earlier request for Obuah and other PDP aspirants to withdraw in support of Fubara and admitted the strained relationship.

Reflecting on the support he received from Obuah during his gubernatorial campaign, Wike regretted not reciprocating the gesture. He stated, “Leadership is about firmness, courage, and transparency. When a leader makes a wrong decision, nothing stops that leader from saying, I am sorry for that decision I took.”

Looking ahead to the 2023 elections, Wike acknowledged the contributions of individuals like Obuah, expressing a willingness to rectify his previous decision. He apologized to the people of Onelga for any hurt caused by his actions and urged them to understand the fallibility of leaders.

Addressing Go-Round directly, Wike admitted, “In 2023, if you look at those whom ordinarily I should support for the governorship, Go-Round should be one of them in the forefront.” He requested forgiveness and emphasized the importance of acknowledging mistakes and making amends.

Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of Petroleum Resources (Oil), praised Wike as a regional leader, emphasizing his influence beyond Rivers State. Lokpobiri highlighted Wike’s extensive network and friendships across Nigeria.

Wike’s public apology to Obuah signifies a shift in his stance, acknowledging past errors and expressing a commitment to rectify them in the interest of unity and the upcoming elections.
