At least five police officers involved in providing security during the Edo State governorship election have died in a road accident.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the death, saying it occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.
The accident occurred along the Zaria-Kano road at Karfi Village by the Trailer Park.
The FRSC said, “The crash was reported by the Kura Local Government Police Division, involved two vehicles: a trailer and a Toyota Hummer Bus with registration number 14B101KN belonging to Kanoline. The accident, which took place at approximately 0115 hours, involved a total of fifteen individuals.
“Sadly, five lives were lost, and ten people sustained varying degrees of injuries. The victims were identified as members of the Nigeria Police Force returning from a special assignment in Edo State, where they had been deployed for election monitoring.”
The statement added that preliminary investigations by the FRSC have revealed that the crash was caused by excessive speeding, which led the driver of the Hummer bus to lose control and collide with a parked trailer.
Why should Police Officer all the way from Kano State will be deployed to Edo State just to monitor election, when we have closer states like, Kogi, Benue, Enugu and other states to be deployed. I sympathy with them and pray to God to console their families.
Let them earth their hearts if they were not involved in the rigging that took place in Edo. All I know is that no matter what you do , there’s a pay back. How can there be police in Edo and this kind of rigging would take place..?? You went to monitor the peaceful handover of Edo people to APC.. God is not a man.
