‎SGF Akume Confirms Yomi Odunuga’s Appointment As Media Adviser

‎The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) has confirmed the appointment of veteran journalist Yomi Odunuga as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to SGF Senator George Akume.

‎According to a statement issued on Saturday by Terrence Kuanum, Special Adviser on Public Affairs in the SGF’s office, Odunuga’s appointment was approved on Thursday, July 10, 2025, and he has since begun carrying out official duties in his new role.

‎Kuanum clarified that Odunuga, a respected figure in the Nigerian media landscape, has commenced the required documentation process in line with the provisions of the Public Service Rules to facilitate his formal integration into the SGF’s team.

‎The clarification follows speculation in some media circles questioning the legitimacy of Odunuga’s appointment. The SGF’s office urged the public to disregard such reports, noting that the appointment was properly sanctioned.

‎On the same day of his appointment, Mr. Odunuga issued a press statement in his official capacity debunking rumours linking the SGF to the chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kuanum noted.

‎The SGF expressed confidence in Odunuga’s capacity to strengthen the public image of his office, citing his extensive journalistic experience and professional pedigree.

‎Odunuga, formerly an Associate Editor at The Nation newspaper, is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most seasoned political editors and columnists.

‎The SGF’s office reiterated its commitment to transparency and professionalism in all official appointments.
