Studies and Civic Educators Association of Nigeria (SOSCEAN) has advocated for the repositioning of Social Studies and Civic education curriculum at both basic education and Senior Secondary schools levels to instill sustainable developmental values and patriotism in our young ones.
SOSCEAN made the call in the communique issued at the end of the 12th Annual Conference of the Association in Abuja.
The theme of the 12th National Annual Conference was “Repositioning Social Studies and Civic Education for Sustainable National Development and Global Impact”.
According to SOSCEAN, “The Government should make frantic efforts in collaboration with Social Studies and Civic Educators Association of Nigeria and other stakeholders to review Social Studies and Civic Education curriculum components for sustainable development and global impact.”
This is imperative for fostering a more informed, patriotic, engaged, and responsible citizenry in a globalized world.
The association then invites “group of like-minds to come together as one in order to fight the common challenges confronting teaching and learning of Social Studies and Civic Education in Nigeria. Our unity is our strength.”
The Conference attracted scholars in social studies and civic education from institutions of higher learning across the federation.
DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS reports that the Conference was earlier scheduled for August 7th 2024 but was later held from 13th – 16th August, 2024 due to the concerns of the on-going protests in some states of Nigeria.
