‎Sunday Sermon: Great Opportunities By The Revd Olalekan Olomola

‎Great opportunities are chances for significant positive change in one’s life, often leading to a prosperous future and a fulfilling destiny.

‎Recognizing and seizing these opportunities, especially those divinely orchestrated, is crucial for maximizing potential and achieving one’s goals. It’s important to be sensitive to these opportunities, as they can sometimes be disguised or come in unexpected forms.

‎Opportunities are seen as pathways to fulfilling one’s potential and achieving a desired future. Many believe that opportunities are often divinely planned and presented, requiring sensitivity to recognize them.

‎“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”— Ephesians 5:15–16 (NIV)

‎Preparation is Key: Being prepared for opportunities through prayer, faith, and diligent effort is essential for seizing them when they arise.

‎Overcoming Obstacles: Opportunities may come with challenges or setbacks, but it’s important to persevere and not be discouraged.

‎Character and Relationships: Positive character traits and good relationships can play a vital role in recognizing and benefiting from opportunities.

‎Seizing the Moment: When an opportunity presents itself, it’s crucial to act decisively and not hesitate.

‎Potential for Misfortune: Missing opportunities can lead to missed blessings and potential setbacks in one’s life.

‎Examples and Perspectives:

‎Joseph’ s Opportunity:

‎The story of Joseph, who rose to prominence after interpreting Pharaoh’s dream, illustrates how seizing an opportunity can lead to great success.

‎Paul’ s Missionary Journey:

‎The Apostle Paul’s experience in Acts 16 demonstrates how a divinely guided opportunity can lead to a new mission and purpose.

‎Isaac in Gerar

‎Isaac sojourn in Gerar was a reaffirmation of the Abrahamic covenant and a demonstration of God’s faithfulness during a time of famine and hardship. God directs Isaac to stay in Gerar, promises to be with him, bless him, and fulfill the oath made to Abraham. Despite facing challenges like famine and conflict with the Philistines, Isaac experiences God’s provision and protection.

‎Isaac’s Prosperity: Despite the famine, Isaac experiences great success, becoming wealthy and powerful.

‎Conflicts and Provision: Isaac faces conflicts with the Philistines over wells, but God provides for him, and he eventually finds a well of his own.

‎Obedience and Blessing: The story highlights the importance of obedience to God’s word and the blessings that follow, even in challenging circumstances. In essence, the narrative in Gerar serves as a testament to God’s faithfulness to His covenant with Abraham and His continued provision and protection for Isaac.

‎God Is the Source of All Great Opportunities

‎“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock…” — Revelation 3:20 God is not just a door-opener; He is the door.

‎Opportunities are not always about personal gain—they are about purpose. When God opens a door, no one can shut it. (Rev. 3:7–8).

‎Start seeing your job, your school, your relationships not just as routine, but as divine platforms.

‎Great Opportunities Often Come Through Small Beginnings “Do not despise these small beginnings…” — Zechariah 4:10 David’s opportunity began with bringing lunch to his brothers. Joseph’s opportunity to lead Egypt started in a prison.

‎What seems insignificant today might be preparation for something great.

‎Be faithful in the small—your daily routine, your current role, your hidden obedience.

‎Opportunities Require Courage and Action

‎“No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” — Luke 9:62

‎Fear often causes people to miss God-ordained moments. Peter had to step out of the boat to walk on water.

‎The parable of the talents (Matthew 25) shows that playing it safe can be disobedience.

‎What is God asking you to step into—even if it scares you?

‎Every Opportunity Is a Chance to Reflect Christ “Let your light shine before others…” — Matthew 5:16

‎Every door you walk through is a chance to show God’s love, character, and truth. Success in God’s eyes is not measured by the outcome but by obedience and faithfulness.

‎Ask yourself, “How can I glorify God in this opportunity?”

‎Conclusion:

‎Opportunities are not just moments to move forward in life; they are moments to move forward in purpose. God is opening doors—some in your career, others in your character, some in ministry, others in relationships. Don’t just pray for opportunities—prepare for them. And when they come, walk through them with boldness.

‎Closing Prayer:

‎“Lord, open our eyes to see the doors You’ve set before us. Give us the courage to walk through them, the wisdom to recognize them, and the heart to use them for Your glory. May we be faithful stewards of every opportunity You entrust to us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
