Sunday Sermon: Living As A Blessing by Very Rev Enenche G. O

Text: Genesis 12:2-3, Matthew 5:13-16

Introduction:

God’s ultimate purpose for our lives is to be a blessing to others. We are called to live a life that reflects His goodness, mercy, and love. Today, we’ll explore what it means to live as a blessing and practical steps to achieve this.

Step 1: Receive God’s Blessing

  • Understand that God’s blessing is not based on our worthiness but on His love and grace (Ephesians 1:3-4).
  • Recognize that we are blessed to be a blessing (Genesis 12:2-3).

Scripture: “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.” – Genesis 12:2

Step 2: Cultivate a Heart of Gratitude

  • Focus on God’s goodness and provision in your life (Psalm 103:1-5).
  • Practice thanksgiving in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

Scripture: “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever!” – Psalm 107:1

Step 3: Be a Source of Hope

  • Share the Gospel with others (Matthew 28:19-20).
  • Offer words of encouragement and support (Proverbs 12:25).

Scripture: “You are the light of the world… Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16

Step 4: Show Compassion and Mercy

  • Demonstrate kindness to those in need (Matthew 25:31-46).
  • Forgive others as God has forgiven you (Matthew 6:14-15).

Scripture: “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” – Matthew 5:7

Step 5: Live with Integrity

  • Walk in obedience to God’s Word (Psalm 119:1-8).
  • Reflect Christ’s character in your actions (Colossians 3:1-17).

Scripture: “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16

Conclusion:

As we strive to live as a blessing, let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the ultimate blessing. He is the source of our blessing, the perfect example of a life lived for others. May our lives be a reflection of His love, mercy, and grace.

“As God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” (Colossians 3:12)

May we be ambassadors of Christ, shining His light in a world in need. May our lives proclaim the gospel message: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus. Help us to live as a blessing, reflecting Your love and mercy. May our lives point others to Christ.

Amen.

Action Points:

  1. Reflect on how you can be a blessing to someone today.
  2. Share your testimony with someone this week.
  3. Practice gratitude by writing down three things you’re thankful for each day.
  4. Look for opportunities to show compassion and mercy.
  5. Commit to living with integrity, guided by God’s Word.
