Sunday Sermon: Spirit Of Fear By Bishop Dr Gbenga Barnabas

Text: 2 Tim 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love and of sound mind.”
Job 3:25. “For the things which I greatly feared is come upon me and that which I was afraid of is come unto me…”

FEAR is a demonic force that instills anxiety, worry, panic, intimidation upon a person….. FEAR is a hindering weapon of satan arranged to stop people from fulfilling God’s given purpose..

TYPES OF FEAR

1) Fear of the unknown and unnecessary worries and uncertainty about the future.

2) Fear of failure, that’s fear of making mistakes. The parable of talents, the one with one talent exhibited this type of fear. Matt 25:25.

3) Fear of man. Worrying about what man can do to you.

4) Fear of death. Anxiety about dying or worries of loosing loved ones.

EFFECTS OF FEAR

Fear has sting which are negative in nature some of which includes the following:

(A) Causes separation from GOD Gen 3:10 Adam vs God in the garden, sin, disobedience separated them.

(B) Fear leads to loss opportunities. 10 spies missed entering the promised land due to fear of men. Numbers 14.

(C) Fear weakens ones faith thereby causing, doubt, inaction, hesitation and even distress. Matt 8:26, Mk 4:40, Job 4:14.

HOW TO OVERCOME FEAR

Since God did not give us the spirit of fear, but Satan, we as children of God can overcome fear via the following attitudes;

(1) Trust in God in all circumstances gives you boldness to confront and overcome. Psm 56:3 (2) Prayer is an overcoming tool over fear. Psm 34:4. (3) Walking in love overwhelmed fear. 1 John 4:18.

Prophetic Prayers

The mercy of God will not permit demonic and manipulative spirit of fear to stop me from fulfilling divine purpose In Jesus Name, Amen.
