Tinubu May Announce Much-Awaited Cabinet Reshuffle Oct. 23; Ministers Brace Up

President Bola Tinubu’s return to Nigeria on Sunday, October 20, has reportedly left some ministers feeling anxious.

A source from the presidency revealed that Hadiza Bala Usman, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, has prepared a report assessing the ministers’ performances.

It is believed that Tinubu took this report with him during his trip to the UK and may announce a cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday, October 23.

President Tinubu is gearing up for a cabinet reshuffle, causing anxiety among ministers. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, hinted at the upcoming changes, emphasizing the need to replace underperforming ministers. The reshuffle aims to bring in fresh talent to support Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, addressing long-standing criticism that many ministers were appointed based on political connections rather than merit.

Hadiza Bala Usman’s performance evaluation report will guide Tinubu’s decisions regarding ministerial positions.

According to reports, the president returned from his two-week leave with this crucial report, heightening concern among certain ministers.

High-profile officials, including Zaccheus Adedeji (Chairman of FIRS and Special Adviser on Revenue) and Dave Umahi (Minister of Works), were seen meeting with Tinubu at Aso Rock, along with National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa.

The source also mentioned that a Federal Executive Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23, which may serve as a farewell for any departing ministers.

Tinubu is expected to announce the cabinet reshuffle before the week concludes, marking a significant overhaul of his administration.

In earlier reports, it was noted that President Tinubu had been advised to dismiss Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, following indications that a cabinet reshuffle was imminent.

Legal practitioner, Bisi Afolabi suggested this change during an exclusive interview, criticizing Bagudu for his apparent misunderstanding of his responsibilities.
