Wesley Light Of Hope Academy Kubwa, Abuja Holds Career Day; Professionals Task Parents On Career Choice

Nigerian parents have been urged to always guide their children and wards in the choice of career and not to neither choose nor impose career on them.

The advise was given by professionals during the Career Day of Wesley Light of Hope Academy, Phase 3, Kubwa, Abuja.

They were of the views that a child would normally do well in a chosen career where his or her interest lies with passion for success.

All the speakers told the pupils and Students of Wesley Light of Hope Academy that with hardwork they can be the best in their chosen profession.

Miss Ojo Ayomide Blessing, a Civil Engineer who works with the Nigeria Railway Corporation said the Engineering profession is for smart people who are good in calculations.

She challenged the students to study hard in order to make a mark in the society stressing that “Nothing can take the place of an educated mind”.

Engr Ojo said the brain of engineers work 24 hours a day and they are always among the best and well to do members of the society.

She advised the students that they must concentrate on studying Mathematics and science subjects like Physics and Chemistry in order to have the pre-requsite qualifications to study Engineering in the higher institutions.

She also mentioned some aspects of engineering which included the Aerospace, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering but concluded that Civil Engineering is the mother of all engineering fields as it deals with road construction, building of bridges and highways as well as rail tracks and even assist in aerospace navigation of aeroplane routes.

A seasoned lawyer, Barr. Peterson C. Ihunweze, a Notary Public with Grebel Solicitors Abuja told the students that if they want a profession where one can never be unemployed, the Law profession is the answer.

According to him everyone in the society needs the services of a Lawyer noting that all government agencies be it local, state or federal have legal units as well as private companies.

Barr Ihunweze said another benefits of the law profession is that you can carry your wig and be practicing after you might have retired from a paid employment.

“Families of Lawyers are always proud of them because nobody would ever take the family for granted once they know there’s a lawyer in the family,” he added.

He told the students that before you can study law in the university, you must be good in English Language and Literature in English apart from other subjects.

To a Public Health Physician, Dr Abel Dahunsi of Daughters of Charity Hospital, Kubwa, Abuja, one must have passion to safe lives and be a caring human being to fit in to the medial profession.

Dr Dahunsi who attended the session with medical tools used in hospitals display and explained their functions to the admiration of the pupils and students of the Academy.

He told them that studying medicine is rigorous but determined individuals would make it after six years of study in the university.

In the secondary school, he advised Students to concentrate on studying science subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology plus English Language and Mathematics to qualify for University entrance examination.

Dr Dahunsi explained that only doctors cannot run the hospitals stressing the importance of other staff in the hospitals.

He made mentioned of other notable health service providers including the Nurses, Laboratory attendants and officers, Radiographers, Dentists, etc.

Pupils and Students of the Academy dressed in the uniforms of their preferred professions.

Highlights of the Career Day was drama presentations and beauty contest.

Wesley Light of Hope Academy Kubwa, Abuja is owned by Methodist Church Nigeria with classes from playgroup, pre-nursery, Nursery, Primary, Junior Secondary School and Senior Secondary School. It is situated in Cathedral of Grace Kubwa premises in Phase 3, Kubwa, Abuja.
