Yahaya Bello Receives Ultimatum From EFCC: Prove Innocence Or Prepare For Military Detainment

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has escalated its pursuit of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, warning of potential military involvement if he continues to evade arrest.

The agency’s intention to involve the military follows a failed attempt to apprehend Bello at his Abuja residence, which prompted the EFCC to explore alternative measures.

During a hearing at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, April 18, EFCC’s legal representative, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), expressed frustration over the obstruction of Bello’s arrest by his successor, Usman Ododo.

Pinheiro emphasized that immunity does not extend to obstructing the execution of legal orders, stating, “We can invite the military to intervene and execute the court’s order.”

Pinheiro urged Bello to cease evasive tactics and appear in court to address the allegations against him. Drawing a parallel with a former U.S. president’s legal proceedings, Pinheiro stressed the importance of respecting the judicial process.

The EFCC’s determination to enforce the court’s order underscores its commitment to upholding the rule of law. Further updates on this developing situation will be provided as they emerge.
