‎Two Bag Six Months Jail For Spraying Naira Notes At Lagos Event

‎Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced Babatunde Olaitan and Tobilola Olamide, also known as TobiNation, to six months in prison each for tampering with naira notes during a social event.

‎The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, secured their conviction on Thursday after arraigning them on separate one-count charges for violating Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007, which prohibits the spraying and mutilation of the Nigerian currency.

‎The charge against Olaitan stated that on April 8, 2025, at 23 Macdonald Road, Ikoyi, he was seen spraying N200 notes while dancing at a social gathering.

‎Olamide was also accused of the same offence at the same venue and date.

‎They both pleaded guilty to the charges against them.

‎Following their pleas, the EFCC prosecutors, C.C. Okezie and H.U. KofarNaisa, reviewed the facts through an EFCC investigative officer, Ibrahim Bukar.

‎He told the court that on April 10, 2025, the commission opened an investigation after spotting a video on TikTok showing Olaitan, also known as TDollar, spraying currency notes.

‎According to Bukar, “The convict reported to the Special Operations Team on May 5, 2025, and in his statement, admitted he was gifted a bundle of N200 notes by a fan at a night club, which he sprayed on others.”

‎The operative said they showed the video footage to Olaitan and Olamide, and they made statements, and their statements were admitted as evidence.

‎After reviewing the materials, the prosecution urged the court to convict and sentence the duo.

‎Justice Owoeye agreed, sentencing both Olaitan and Olamide to six months in prison with an option of a N200,000 fine each.

‎Their path to prison began with their arrest by the EFCC operatives for abusing the naira, a crime the commission continues to clamp down on.
