The African Action Congress, AAC, has inaugurated its Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election, with plans to intensify nationwide mobilisation for its presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and his running mate, Haruna Magashi.
The party announced the inauguration in a statement on Friday, signed by its Acting National Chairman, Samuel Ajeigbe, and National Secretary, Oshiokhue Phillip Ikpeminoghena.
The statement said the inauguration marked “a major step forward” in the party’s preparations to mobilise Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
It added that the council would coordinate campaign activities across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, bringing together political strategists, organisers, policy advocates, media professionals, digital campaigners, election specialists, legal practitioners and finance personnel.
The council will be led by Abdullahi Usman as Director-General, supported by deputies responsible for Strategy and Political Affairs, and Diaspora and Resource Mobilisation. Juwon Sanyaolu will serve as the Campaign Council Secretary.
The party also established 10 national directorates to oversee strategy and policy, grassroots mobilisation, labour and civil society engagement, publicity and communications, digital media, data and technology, election operations, finance, legal and compliance, and administration and field operations.
At the grassroots level, the campaign structure will extend through state, local government, ward and polling-unit coordinators, with a network of volunteers, canvassers, polling agents and supporters.
The AAC said its mobilisation efforts had been significantly powered by the SOWORENOW application, which it described as an important digital platform for organising supporters and coordinating campaign activities.
“The Presidential Campaign Council is not a replacement for this digital mobilisation infrastructure; rather, it is designed to upscale, deepen and expand it,” the statement said.
According to the party, the council would combine digital tools with physical organisation to broaden the campaign’s reach and strengthen its presence in communities nationwide.
“The Council will combine the power of technology with physical grassroots organisation, political coordination and community-level mobilisation to ensure that the Sowore–Magashi campaign reaches Nigerians in every part of the country,” it added.
The party said it intended to take its message beyond major cities and state capitals to rural communities and polling units as part of its preparations for the election.
“The 2027 election is not merely about changing the occupant of Aso Rock; it is about changing the political direction of Nigeria,” the statement said.
It added that the party believed the existing political order had failed Nigerians and that its campaign would focus on reaching voters directly.
“As the old political order continues to fail Nigerians, the AAC is taking its message directly to the people, from the cities to the rural communities, from state capitals to the polling units,” the statement read.
The party described the inauguration as the beginning of an intensified nationwide mobilisation, calling on Nigerians who wanted a different political direction to join its campaign.
“We call on Nigerians who believe that Nigeria can and must be different to join us,” the statement said.
“The task of taking back our country cannot be left to politicians alone; it requires the active participation of the People,” it added.
