The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), has said it is reviewing the results of the 2026 governorship election across the state’s 332 wards, with a view to exploring available legal avenues, including challenging the outcome at the election tribunal.
The party, in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, said it was consulting its legal team before deciding on the next step after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the election results.
According to the APC, the election process does not end with the declaration of results, and the constitutional process allows aggrieved parties to seek redress at the Election Petition Tribunal, the Court of Appeal, and ultimately the Supreme Court.
The party said, “An election cannot be said to have been concluded without having explored all these constitutionally allowed legal opportunities to correct anomalies observed in the process of the election as enshrined in the Electoral Act 2026 as amended.”
It said it would not hesitate to explore the “window allowed by the extant Electoral Act” after consulting its lawyers and acting on their professional advice.
The APC described the development as part of the beauty of democracy, saying INEC’s declaration of the governorship election results would not make the party abandon its commitment to the rule of law, fairness and justice.
The party commended its members and supporters for their “steadfastness, sagacity and loyalty” throughout the electoral process, saying their contributions had helped the party reach the current stage in the state’s political history.
The APC, however, appealed to its members and supporters to remain calm and go about their normal business without responding to any provocative action or inaction allegedly emanating from members of the ruling party.
It also appealed to the Nigeria Police Force to protect its members and supporters, whom it alleged were being “needlessly molested” by the ruling party.
The party assured its members that it would not abandon them, urging them not to despair over the current situation.
“The current situation in the political history of the state is a passing phase which will soon become part of history as justice shall be done accordingly,” the statement added.
