The first Nigerian Professor of Literature and Medicine, Prof Emmanuel Babatunde Omobowale has emerged as the Vice-Chancellor of West Midlands Open University, Ikeja, Lagos.
According to a statement by Professor Idowu Olayinka, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, West Midlands Open University and made available to DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS, the appointment is for a term of five years in the first instance, subject to the Statutes of the University governing the office of Vice-Chancellor.

HONOUR AND DISTINCTION
Kindly join me in congratulating Professor Emmanuel Babatunde OMOBOWALE, of the Department of English, University of Ibadan, on his appointment as Vice-Chancellor of West Midlands Open University, Ikeja, Lagos State. The appointment is for a term of five years in the first instance, subject to the Statutes of the University governing the office of Vice-Chancellor.
Omobowale holds the degrees of B.A. in English with Second Class Honours (Upper Division), M.A. in Literature in English, Ph.D in Literature in English from the University of Ibadan and M.A. in Bioethics from the Case Western Reserve University Cleveland. He was awarded the Departmental Prize for Literature as the best graduating student in his set.
He joined the University of Ibadan as Assistant Lecturer in May 1995 and through a dint of hard work, seminal publications and mentorship of his students he rose rapidly through the ranks to the grade of Professor, effective 1st October 2010. He is the first Nigerian Professor of Literature and Medicine.
He has published over 50 sole authored articles in books and reputable journals as well as a number of articles with his students and professional colleagues. He has successfully supervised 21 Doctoral theses, 60 Master dissertations and over 130 Bachelor Projects.
His cognate administrative experience at the University of Ibadan comprises Head Department of English from 2012 to 2017 and Director Distance Learning Centre from 2020 to 2026.
He is happily married and has children
