The former Director of Defence Information, Rabe Abubakar, and his wife have been abducted by suspected bandits in Katsina State.
DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS reports that the couple were reportedly travelling towards Katsina on Saturday when gunmen intercepted their vehicle in Matazu Local Government Area and took them away.
Abubakar Aliyu, spokesperson of the Katsina State Police Command, confirmed the incident.
He said the Police has already launched a manhunt to rescue the general and his wife.
Aliyu said: “The attack occurred at about 11a.m. on Saturday when the assailants, armed with dangerous weapons, intercepted a red Peugeot 406 saloon, carrying the general and his wife and traveling along the route”.
“The driver, Abdullahi Sa’id, sustained a gunshot wound to his right arm during the attack, the general and his wife were abducted before security operatives arrived at the scene”.
He said the Commissioner of Police had visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and deployed additional tactical units and resources to support rescue efforts.
“Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer in Matazu, accompanied by operatives of the Village Community Response Unit (VCRU), swiftly mobilised to the scene”
“The team secured the area and evacuated the injured driver to a medical facility for treatment”.
The PPRO assured residents that the command remains committed to tackling criminal activities across the state and urged the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible information.
He said: “Efforts to rescue the General and his wife, and apprehend the perpetrators are ongoing, and further developments will be communicated as investigations progress.”
