The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three men in Saki over allegations of homosexual acts following an intelligence-led operation conducted by operatives of the Command’s Monitoring Unit.
The suspects were identified as Ayomide Lukeman, 22; Shuaib Aremu, 22; and Abdul-Rasheed Mufeed, 23.
According to a press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the arrests followed intelligence received by the command on September 29, concerning the alleged involvement of a group of individuals in what the police described as “unnatural sexual conduct.”
The command said the Commissioner of Police subsequently directed the Monitoring Unit to verify the intelligence and take appropriate action, leading to the arrest of the three suspects at the Saki Operational Base.
The police stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects admitted to engaging in homosexual acts.
According to the statement, two of the suspects reportedly confessed to having had carnal knowledge of the third suspect on multiple occasions, with the latter allegedly regarded by them as their “wife.”
The command, however, said investigations were ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the allegations and determine whether other individuals were connected to the case.
“The Oyo State Police Command reiterates its commitment to conducting investigations professionally, impartially, and in accordance with the law.”
The police assured the public that all necessary investigative procedures would be followed to establish the facts and ensure that appropriate action was taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
The command also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist in crime prevention, detection and investigation.
For emergencies, the police provided the Oyo State Call Response Centre toll-free line, 615, and the command’s control room numbers.
