Mixed reactions have continued to emerge following the decision of a Federal High Court in Abuja to remand activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar on Monday ordered that Sowore remain in custody pending the hearing and determination of his application seeking a stay of execution of an earlier ruling that revoked his bail and issued a bench warrant against him.
Sowore is currently facing trial over allegations linked to social media posts in which he reportedly referred to President Bola Tinubu as “a criminal.” He has consistently challenged the charges.
Among those who reacted to the court’s decision was Emmanuel Kanu, younger brother of the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
In a message shared on Facebook, Emmanuel Kanu encouraged Sowore to remain steadfast, expressing confidence that he would overcome the current legal battle.
He argued that oppression and suppression are never sustainable, adding that justice would ultimately prevail.
Kanu also disclosed that many Biafrans were praying for the activist during the difficult period.
Popular social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), also weighed in on the development.
In a post shared on Facebook, the controversial commentator alleged that corruption had become deeply rooted within Nigeria’s justice system.
While stressing that he is not a supporter of Sowore, VDM argued that citizens should not remain silent about issues affecting governance and accountability in the country.
He further criticised the current state of insecurity, claiming that many Nigerians have lost access to farmlands and safe transportation routes due to the activities of terrorists and bandits.
The court order has also triggered widespread debate across social media platforms, with many Nigerians expressing differing opinions on the matter.
While some users defended the judiciary’s actions as part of due process, others described the decision as politically motivated and questioned the circumstances surrounding Sowore’s continued prosecution.
