‎Sunday Sermon: Do Not Rejoice When the Righteous Falls By The Very Rev Enenche G. O.

‎Text: “Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice” (Proverbs 24:17).

‎Scripture Reading:

‎- “Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice, or the Lord will see and disapprove and turn His wrath away from them” (Proverbs 24:17-18).

‎- “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn” (Romans 12:15).

‎- “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).

‎Dear beloved in Christ,

‎As we reflect on the importance of genuine joy and compassion, let’s explore the significance of not rejoicing when the righteous falls.

‎I. God’s Justice and Mercy

‎When we see others facing challenges, we must remember God’s sovereignty and justice. As Proverbs 24:17-18 reminds us, “Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice, or the Lord will see and disapprove and turn His wrath away from them.” Instead of gloating, let’s pray for those in need, trusting in God’s goodness and mercy.

‎II. The Power of Empathy and Compassion

‎We are called to rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn (Romans 12:15). By showing empathy and compassion, we demonstrate the love of Christ and build stronger relationships.

‎III. The Characteristics of Christian Love

‎Love is patient, kind, and not easily provoked. As 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 reminds us, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” As followers of Christ, we must strive to embody these qualities, even in difficult situations.

Conclusion:

‎Let us cultivate a spirit of compassion, empathy, and love, reflecting the heart of Christ in our interactions with others. May we trust in God’s justice and mercy, and may our words and actions bring glory to His name, Amen 🙏
