Multipurpose Hall of Funtaj International School, Gudu District, Abuja played host to dignitaries a all walks of life including Captains of industries, top politicians and philanthropist as a woman of substance, a Knight of John Wesley of Methodist Church Nigeria and Otun Iya Ijo of Methodist Church Nigeria, Idod, Ijebu Diocese, Dame (Chief Dr) Fehintola Oluyemisi Adeseun took over the mantle of leadership as the 7th Chairman, Inner Wheel District 910 – Nigeria on Saturday 1st 2026.
In his congratulatory message, Senator Ayo Ademola Adeseun, the husband of the new District Chairman, IWM Fehintola Oluyemisi Adeseun, “Darling, I am particularly elated, that in INNER WHEEL, you found a most effective and satisfying vehicle for the unfettered demonstration and discharge of that which you are best at, i.e. genuinely caring for, and about others, without looking for reward.”
In her address of welcome, the Chairman of the Installation Planning Committee, and Vice Deputy Chairman of Inner Wheel District 910 Nigeria, IWM Alice I. Ogar, said the primary focus of the Club is service to humanity with particular attention to providing for the vulnerable members of her immediate grassroots Communities through basic projects in schools, hospitals, orphanages, correctional centers and empowering vulnerable women especially widows to fend for their families.
The outgoing DC 2025/2026, IWM Felicia Agbonhese outlined the focus and projects her executive pursued during their tenure which included Purchase and development of land for skill acquisition, Awareness: Elimination of Gender Based Violence and Elderly care/support among others.
IWM Felicia Agbonhese said the Inner Wheel organisation is built on the objective of Friendship, service and fostering international understanding.
She then handed over the mantle of leadership to the new District Chairman, IWM Fehintola Oluyemisi Adeseun.
The new Chairman revealed that the star project of her Executive is the construction of a Skill Acquisition Centre in Karahi, an Abuja suburb, noting that the centre will provide vocational and entrepreneurial training for young people and women, equipping them with Practical skills for self-reliance, economic Independence and a bright future.
She appreciated His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ismaila Danladi Mohammed MFR, the Emir of Karshi for donating the land on which the centre would be built.
Dame Adeseun said other key focus for 2026-2027 are humanitarian assistance and emergency relief for vulnerable communities, Health and wellness through medical outreaches and disease prevention as well as educational support and youth development initiatives among others.
According to her, “We grow when we serve, and together we flourish when ever act of kindness becomes a seed of hope for humanity.”
IWM Fehintola Oluyemisi Adeseun in line with the Club’s bye-law inducted all the District Officers who work along with her in the 2026/2027 Executive.
The District Chairman later flagged off the skill acquisition empowerment programme with the donations of working tools like sowing machines, farming tools and chemical for farming to the beneficiaries.
Delivering the keynote address, the Guest Speaker who is the Principal Partner of Sevann Chambers, Dame (Barr) Offonmbuk Charles Akpabio spoke on Inner Wheel theme for the year: “Grow & Flourish”. She urged women to build resilience, embrace collaboration and support one another to achieve lasting growth and fulfil their potential.
Dame Akpabio said true success goes beyond personal achievements, stressing that women must intentionally grow stronger to withstand life’s challenges and make meaningful contributions to society. “It is not enough to simply grow; we must grow strong. Weak plants grow too, but they do not survive. We must intentionally grow strong so that we can truly flourish,” she said.
She likened life to a seed buried beneath the soil, explaining that adversity should be viewed as an opportunity for growth rather than defeat. According to her, sustainable growth is built on resilience, meaningful relationships, continuous learning and a sense of purpose, rather than individual accomplishments alone.
Drawing from the PERMA model of well-being, Akpabio identified positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning and accomplishment as the five pillars of flourishing, noting that collaboration remains essential for personal and community development.
She encouraged women to support one another. “There is tremendous power in our collective voice. When women are represented where decisions are made, communities and nations benefit,” she said.
IWM Adeseun in her official capacity conferred different categories of Awards on dignitaries found Worthy of honour.
They included a SAN designate, Chief Dr James Eromosele Agbonhese (KSJI); MD/CEO of Tatum Bank, Mr Niyi Adeseun FCIB; Sir Dupe Nathaniel Longe, Chairman, Lagos Electricity Regulatory Commission, Sir (Engr.) Ambimbola Odubiyi; Lady Beatrice V. Oji, and Hon. Minister Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals Development among others.
The new District Chairman, IWM Fehintola Oluyemisi Adeseun, the Yeye Agba Akin of Ibadanland and Iya Egbe Jagunmolu of Ago Iwoye was born in Abeokuta to the family of a prominent Methodist minister, the late Reverend Superintendent Elijah Olapite Ogungbe of Ago Iwoye.
She hold several awards, honour and recognition in the Church, Inner Wheel and for community service.
