Tension in Kebbi as youths destroy Tinubu, Governor Idris’ campaign posters
There was tension in Jega area of Kebbi State over the weekend as youths tore down campaign posters of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Nasir Idris.
According to Daily Trust, the youths were protesting against the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
The protesters, mainly youths, were returning from a football match on Saturday when they began chanting “bamaso” (we don’t want) and pulling down APC posters.
The youths reportedly staged the protest along major roads in the town, throwing stones at and destroying APC posters and billboards mounted in strategic locations.
They also reportedly tore down billboards and smashed the windscreens of several vehicles belonging to a car dealer in the area during the demonstration.
However, the protesters were later dispersed following the deployment of security operatives, and normalcy returned to the area.
Speaking to newsmen on the development, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Isah Assalafi, called for a full investigation and prosecution of those involved.
He urged security agencies to act decisively, investigate the incident thoroughly and prosecute everyone found responsible.
According to him, nobody should be shielded by political affiliation, position or influence.
“Other political parties in the state and their leaders should take responsibility for the conduct of their supporters and commit themselves to peaceful democratic engagement.
“The APC would continue to support every lawful effort to protect lives, secure communities and preserve democratic participation in the state,” he said.
