Former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has rejected suggestions that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is his political leader in the Peoples Democratic Party.
Oyinlola described Wike as his political junior, insisting that their respective positions and political experience do not place the former Rivers State governor above him in the party.
The former governor stated this on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, while reacting to claims that Wike had emerged as a leader of the PDP.
He maintained that although he remained a member of the opposition party, he did not recognise Wike as his leader.
Oyinlola argued that Wike was still a student when he served as governor of Osun State, adding that his political career and experience predated the FCT minister’s rise to prominence.
He said, “Nobody has invited me to any rainbow coalition. I don’t know the meaning of rainbow except the one I know.
He is not my leader. You don’t say that kind of thing. Yes, I am a member of the PDP, but he is not my leader.
“When I was governor, where was he? He was in school. So, he doesn’t qualify to be my leader. He’s my boy.”
Oyinlola further emphasised that his long-standing involvement in politics and the positions he had occupied in the PDP and government placed him on a different political footing from Wike.
